NBK Special – Jan Van der Roost & Andrew Wainwright
In this episode, conductor and composer Geert Jan Kroon talks with Jan Van der Roost and Andrew Wainwright. Van der Roost talks about his new work The Lost Circle and about new developments around Stonehenge. The question whether there will be another work around this theme is answered. Wainwright talks about his life as a composer and about his work Variations on ‘Was Lebet’ which was the test piece for the second section during NBK 2024.
During the Dutch Nationals, Geert Jan also interviewed most bands and conductors after their performance at the contest. The videos can be viewed via the CU Brass channel: NBK Interviews. The NBK 2024 took place on October 26 and 27. This year’s champion was Brassband De Wâldsang. In the other sections, Koperensemble De Wâldsang (4th), Brassband Immanuël (3rd), Gereformeerde Brassband Groningen (2nd) and Excelsior Zalk (1st) became champions. The conductors Jan Werkman and Rieks van der Velde both achieved a double prize. Bienze IJlstra was the winning conductor in the 4th division.
